Hello all! Over the years I'v developed over a handful of characters for my personal projects. It's no easy task to undertake, as the final goal is to create a believable human being form scratch (or at lease a being us humans can empathize with). So, this chart is something I made up a few years back to help me get a better idea of the people I was trying to bring to life. I find that using this chart can be a good start, but not a permanent guideline. Characters grow and change alone with there stories and the people who created them. This chart is something to keep coming back to. To renew, and revises as you discover more and more about your character. However, I find it's helpful to get the ball rolling, and I hope you do as well!
First, we start with personality. Make two separate categories, one for good personality traits and one for bad. as and example you could say "kind" (good) and "reckless" (bad). You can also make a space for neutral traits, as some things can go ether way depending on the situation. I start by listing all the traits I already know about them. After, I compare the two lists and even them out so that the good and bad are the same number. If you'd like to do it more simply though, list five of each so you end up with ten all together. (This should be the minimum regardless but the more the better!)
OK good. Then decide if they are an introvert or extrovert.
Step three is to list all of the fallowing!
1. Favorite color
2. Favorite food
3. Least favorite food
4. Favorite pass time/hobbies
5. Talents
6. Fears
7. Allergies
8. Favorite animal
9. Dreams
10. What bothers them
11. Favorite Holiday
12. Favorite hang out spot(s)
13. What they would die for
14. Most guilty for
15. What there bad at
16. What makes them happy
17. Favorite kind of music
18 Least favorite kind of music
19. Favorite flower
20. Favorite season
21. Goals in story
23. What they are jealous of
24. Sexual preference
25. Hours of sleep a night
26: mental disabilities or handicaps
And if there's anything else you can think of or would like to add go right ahead!
Well, I hope you find this useful and have fun!
